Poetry Reading
Your poem read to the class by a professional
How it works
There are two categories: ages 4-11 and ages 12-18. We will select a winner from both of these categories. For younger students, we're focusing on a collaborative book - this means even if some students aren't good at the poetry itself, they can still support the creative process by being the illustrator/editor/project manager!
For older students, we're focusing on the power of reading poetry aloud, so we want you to showcase not just good writing, but good reading too.
Age 4-11
- Create a collaborative book of poetry
- Showcase 5 styles of poetry
- 30 pages maximum - must include cover page and about the class page
- Bonus points if you add illustrations and audio/video!
Age 12-18
- One book per student
- Maximum 5 pages - must include cover and about the author page
- Poetry can be in any style, but must include audio or video of student reading the poem in a dramatic fashion!
- Bonus points for use of multimedia to help bring the book alive
Meet the judges
We will shortlist entries and the final ten from each age group will be judged by our experts! Matthew and Eric will be judging the books on both the quality of the poetry submitted and the overall design and aesthetic of the book.
Submitting your book
The deadline for submission is 30th April 2023.
All entries must be made in Book Creator!
There is a maximum of 3 entries per school allowed, and these must be submitted by a teacher from each school. We suggest you host your own competition in-school first to select your top three entries.
We will not accept submissions entered by students - teachers only!
This competition is open to schools from anywhere in the world but all poetry submissions must be written in English, please.
Use this Google form to submit your book. Please read the full terms and conditions below before entering.
